Past Music videos

13E4 - If you wanna
This video used many edits that made the sequence very dynamic. At the beginning they used a Polaroid design with multiple effect. This made the narrative look very longitudinal making the story more interesting and worth following. The characters are in many locations with multiple costumes to represent different times in history; this relates to the lyrics of the song 'if you wanna go back'. The relationship between the two characters looks very realistic with enthusiastic acting, meaning we take the story more seriously. There locations involve both indoor and outdoor space, including public areas which creates a sense of realism and can be very relative for the audience. The use of the clock as a faded moving image on top of the narrative reminds the audience of the story and shows good editing skills. The clothes representing time in each era is very symbolic and multi-functional, it shows this music video to be very appealing and well thought through. However it doesn't show any lip-sync or instruments making it less of a music video and more of a story, if they multiplied the use of studio and outside filming it would make it professional.

13A2 - Life happens
The clip starts with a close up of the singers lips and then a mid shot of her playing the guitar. They use a girl and a boy which is credible because it is hard to act with someone of the opposite sex and still look professional in a romantic genre of music. They use the woods as a location for part of there film which is a very isolated environment where a couple would stroll around together on a weekend. The types of locations are very dimensional, it gives off a 3D feel as if you are looking into there life without them realising. The use of instrument and lip-sink successfully along with the narrative.

13E - Pretty Little Angel
This music video is very different in comparison to the other films. The use of black and white filter matches the generic rock music base. The video is very graphic and is the narrative is simple, although this comes with negative effects it also makes it look like a good collective piece not a cliche love/relationships video. As the video is very graphic, they do not shy away from the acting making the video more professional and less stereotypically student film.

13E7 - Rounds
This video has a good use of lip-sink and uses three other members to make it seem more like a collaboration, this worked well as it looked collective; although the main singer was visible. The location is quite grimy- this matches the generic music they are singing too which is similar to rap. There use of outdoor location is compatible, and the use of a car and a female character almost make it a narrative without it looking too cliche. The narrative is very simple which might be very boring for the audience, and they don't use much editing software, although there cuts are really smooth.

13E6 - Go in, Go hard
This video uses both narrative and a specific location that is just for the singers who are separate characters. This divide is really appealing as the singing is in a unique location that you would see in a professional video, making it very appealing. The narrative has a clear story and a good attempt at acting, although it is very student like, as a whole they did a good job, although there could have been more use of editing and cool close ups to establish/end the sequence.

13A1 - Sparks fly
As a whole the film uses narrative, division from lip-sinking locations. Good use of romance with both genders, clear narrative and a lot of good cross cutting. However the narrative is quite cliche and sometimes made errors in the acting like when Josie slyly smiles when her 'boyfriend' is hurting her on the stairwell. Sometimes when filming you don't have time to re-film certain parts of the film, so when i do my own one i will ensure that we run-through the whole scene multiple times. When Josie is getting films in Richmond Park the camera is very stiff and so is her expression making it quite uncomfortable to watch.

13A3 - Nine2Five
I like this video, although it only uses one location, they spread parts of the song to different parts of the park with fast cross cutting. The use of clothing, enthusiastic lip-sinking and unique choice of song makes the video very appealing, although quite simple. They could have used more editing software, close ups and zooms to make it more dynamic.

13E9 - Today i cried
One location, not much moving, very stiff and unappealing. The film was oversimplified and became progressively less appealing. They didnt use much of the editing software or include anything different to the narrative it was repetitive.

13B1 - Rewind
The narrative of the music video is very simple, a love story which matches the genre of song. This could be seen as a negative as it isn't very adventurous however it is acceptable within its genre. On the other hand the lip syncing is not in sync lowering its professionalism. They use 2 main locations which is in Richmond park and inside a house, although not the most exciting locations they use very good cross cutting which are smooth and in sync with the music.

13B3 - What we started
This music video shows that the characters are really enthusiastic about making the acting look realistic, especially when they both attempt to cry. They use multiple locations with inside and outside settings, also using props such as a chess board and balloons giving the film variety. However the camera settings don't match with the seriousness of the narrative; realism with romance. Some camera positioning doesn't match; for example some close ups made it look cliche which are evident in the raining scene. Also in some scenes the lighting was too dark especially in outside settings, they could have used colour enhancements to improve this.

13B4 - Lost
This film is very powerful and the deep meaning of the song is well conveyed in the girls facial and body expressions. The opening scene is very strong and unique, something you would see in real music videos. Her use of location; Brighton shows that she took it very serious and her performance is consistent all the way through. It would be better if she improved the lighting or enhanced it to make it more exciting, and matched the lip syncing a bit better as the music is a bit too slow.

13B6 - Ike & Tina
This is really good music video, It begins with no music but a story of a boy opening his results at school, which is unusual for student videos. It uses multiple locations that match the genre of music, using props that demonstrate youth realism and send a serious but comical message about drugs and drinking plus scenes of a sexual nature, he takes risks and it worked well as it is interesting to watch. The use of studio time in a 'rave' scene is very fooling, obviously it is not a real environment but these of camera makes it look crowded and the clothing helps to convey realism along with many other features, also using police uniforms worn by kids showed comedy mixed with realism.

What have I learnt?
from watching these videos I have realised that combining a narrative and studio time makes the best combination to making an interesting video without becoming progressively unappealing. When doing my own video I will use multiple types of editing software that suits the location/mood. If I am filming rather then acting in my own video i will make sure i move around with the camera as well as capturing still shots, as watching previous videos the still scenes look very awkward and un-natural. i would avoid using green screen however as i felt it looked unrealistic, although i would use multiple screens as   it looked very dynamic, maybe using the colour booster if the music chosen was very funky, would make the overall appearance very attractive.

Star Image

This is Lady Gaga showing off one of her extravagant outfits.

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is a perfect example of a musician with a strong Star Image. Her status is as a role model and a self esteem booster for her fans swell as a gay rights supporter, trailblazer and fashion icon with a self confirmed attitude. Her albums bring modern social issues  and the inherently subjective nature of her heart. Her image in the sense of fashion is very 'out there'; for example in the 2010 MTV Music Awards where she wore raw meat, this lead to Vogue.com UK calling her the one of the best dressed of 2010, while Times magazine names her the Fashion Statement of 2010.
She is known for her outrageous outfits and amazingly quirky music videos that gain attention from all over the world. She is present on Social Networking Sites such as Twitter and has a strong following, and loyal fans that she calls 'Little Monsters'. She had a mass commercial success with her debut album in 2008 'The Fame' and had some hit singles such as 'Bad Romance' and 'Telephone'. Her tour; the Monster Ball Tour was one of the best grossing concerts in the world, her second album 'Born This Way' topped the album charts in the most major markets.
Lady Gaga takes influence from singers such as David Bowie, Madonna, Micheal Jackson and Queen, evident in her performances. She has sold 24 million albums and 125 million singles, this is because of her popular music genre of pop and glam rock among many over things. She is often compared to artists such as Gwen Stefani due to her wide vocal range, she refuses to lip sync, with her songs often reflect the style of 80s europop. She has her own column in the fashion magazine  V talking of her ability to tune into the evolution of Pop culture meme, she often declares herself as feminist although her performances include sexual exploitation, she says she is trying to empower women.
Gaga is not afraid of showing her natural beauty.
in researching this Popular music artists I learn that individuality is very important, she is organic and refreshing, we don't know what to expect next which keeps her following strong as people are intrigued with her. also the use of representation with dress and make-up can make a 'character' like artist who is merely expressing her inner feelings and beliefs.
Gaga and her famous 'meat dress'.
Gaga often does nude shots and appearances.
Influences to our work:

- Watch popular music videos and pick out parts that we like in particular for intertextuality.
- Dress our singer in appealing outfits that are original.
- Creating camera angles that create vouyerism.
- Represent the female vocalist as powerful.
- Represent the main singer as confident.
- Make it unique and quirky.
- Use different types of costumes/makeup for locations to show all sides of our singer, this will make the audience feel closer to her.
