Lip-syncing

 We decided to use the song Icona Pop 'I Love It' as we knew that when it came o the real music video we would be editing it in a similar style. Once we finished the filming we realised the lighting wasn't good and it made it harder when editing to cut the music to the lip-sync as it was harder to visualize. Next time we will probably shoot outside or somewhere with brighter lighting. We had difficulties with editing as it was only a short 30 second piece meaning we had to adjust the clips to fit exactly where the lyric was, this was hard because it was fidgety and the pace of the song was very fast. After looking at the edit we realise that the zoom inn of 'I Love It' is not completely matching, but we have comprehended how we will correct it for next time.

Preliminary Storyboard

This is the storyboard for our Preliminary task. We decided to all individually make are own storyboards so when it comes nearer the time we can compare ideas and hopefully combine the ideas to make a better product. My storyboard is divided into six sections which I have roughly divided into 5 seconds per shot. The first stage is the establishing shot, we hope to film this in the studio with the main singer which will be Kirsten, lip-syncing with a microphone which we will borrow from the music department. The second stage is the idea of using the pillars near our school field, collectively 'free-styling' and messing around to fit the generic country-pop music that we have chosen; Taylor Swift - 22, This piece of music is very jolly and fun, so we want to mimic the feel. Thirdly, we hope to use the disappearing technique in our piece so using a tree would be the perfect way to do this, with us all taking part. The next step would be another shot of an instrument with another 'band member.' The next step is Kirsten lip-syncing on a bench outside our school, we are hoping to shoot in the outdoor areas of our school that are most aesthetically pleasing but one issue that could be a problem is school kids interrupting out filming. Lastly we are just want to get a simple shot of Kirsten singing in front of some nice flowers, we want to use a plainer background so that we can use another editing technique such as Multi-screen to make it more dimensional.

Preliminary

Techniques we included:

1. Multiscreen
2. Colourisation
3. Disappearing
4. Jump Cutting

We decided not to use Greenscreen as when we watched previous student music films we did not think the Greencreen was an attractive effect, and not completely necessary in a smaller time frame.


Evaluation:

What went wrong?
We felt that our film went really well but we could have used more interesting locations, outside of school to make it less student-like.

What worked?
We where worried that the lip-syncing wouldn't be on time as we used a different version of the song, but when editing i was very smooth.

what should you have done?
If we had the opportunity to do it again we would use a better ending shot to make it stand out, although we did use multiscreen we could have had Kirsten walk past the camera like they do in real music videos to really leave an outstanding end to the clip.

What you plan to do differently:
We would make the narrative more like a story instead of making it up as we went along.

What you plan to do differently that you didn't do at all:
We would dress up for the occasion obviously to match the genre.

As a group we discussed what locations and camera frames would be suitable for every lyrical line or word, so the action matches with the songs genre. Although it showed we all had similar ideas and agreed on a lot of the future performance, I am glad we didn't spend too much time on it as a lot of our filming was freestyle. As we had studio time and outside settings, we wanted to main outfits that would fit the brief and feel of the song. Taylor Swift was the vocalist therefore we wanted the clothing to be feminine and dressy. We used two separate outfits for the studio and outside scenes so it didn't confuse the audience but also gave the film some variety. In class we discussed suitable songs that we would all feel comfortable filming with, it also had to be known to all of us and the lyrics widely recognised so everyone was fully aware of the genre of the video and so it could easily be lip synced. We dedicated the first lesson on discussion and choosing the song. After this we did the filming and the last lesson we edited our film, and had to stay behind to ensure we finished to its best, One problem we faced in our group was attendance; as if one person did not attend we could not film. Problems we faced with the filming is that the battery did not always last the entire duration of the filming so we had to allocate some of out time to alternative tasks. Also out first filming session ended with us not remembering what SD card we used, this became a problem as other groups used the camera after us so our film could have been over-run.It became very tricky on the software to assure the lip-syncing was matching to the music. We used the disappearing edit by filming a tree by itself and then a separate film of us running behind it in separate orders which we knew would be quite technical to pull off, although it was tricky to make it perfect, with no-one being cut off in the shots we managed to do it correctly. Although we had a very small time frame to get it done, the film was our main priority, but I still managed to organise my blog and track my progress.
